The 15th Globelics International Conference was conducted with great success on 11-13 October 2017, in Athens, Greece. The conference was organised by the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics (LIEE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in cooperation with the Globelics Secretariat(based at the Economics Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) and theInstitute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) of NTUA.
The Conference took place at the Conference Centre of the National Centre for Scientific Research «Demokritos» and had as title “Innovation and Capacity Building in the Context of Financialisation and Uneven Development of the Global Economy: New Roles for the State, Productive Sector, and Social Actors”.
Globelics (Global Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation, and Competence Building Systems) is a worldwide network of more than 2000 scholars from developed and developing countries from all over the world, engaged in research on how innovation, knowledge and competence building contribute to economic and sustainable development.
In total, 350-400 people participated in the Athens Globelics Conference, University Professors and Researchers, representatives of the conference’s sponsors and supporters, start-ups founders and other participants. The foreign invited speakers and paper presenters came from all over the world. In particular, 70 came from Europe, 65 from Latin America, 12 from USA/Canada, 55 from Asia and 33 from Africa. Moreover, it is notable that 133 active volunteers from 9 Greek Universities contributed significantly to the conference conduction.
