Historically, the emergence of inventions and innovations has always been closely related to the management of knowledge and the protection of industrial and intellectual property rights (IPR). This workshop aims at bridging new historiographic approaches on the co-construction of IPR and techno-sciences with contemporary concerns of science, technology and innovation policies (STI), and key issues of entrepreneurial and/or university strategies for IP management.

The workshop illustrated the complexity of managing techno-scientific knowledge and intellectual property both historically and in the contemporary context. In particular, it examined the challenges and uncertainties that key actors confront due to changes in national and international law, the ever-evolving IPR management models and related entrepreneurial trends.

In this context, the workshop addressed intellectual property and the management of intangible assets as social phenomena that have been linked to the production and distribution of value (social, economic and cultural) that actors have sought to acquire both in the past and at present.
